15 mistakes to avoid during JEE preparation
There are different sort of students and they all have their different approaches to prepare for JEE or any other competitive exams. And there are students who work hard but do not get the desired marks or ranks. This is due to some common mistakes that are committed by JEE aspirants. Try to avoid them to boost your rank

1. Ignoring the basics
Most aspirants start preparation by spending thousands of rupees on buying study materials they never ever refer to. So, you are advised to follow your school books and NCERT textbooks.
You should primarily stick to NCERT textbooks as more than 60% of the questions in JEE Mains are asked from NCERT textbooks
2. Neglecting Class XI syllabus
Class XI syllabus has a considerable portion in the JEE exam. Make sure that you revise class XI syllabus thoroughly along with your class XII syllabus. So, 5 to 6 months prior to JEE Main exam, start at least one chapter a day from your class XI syllabus
3. Ignoring Questions which were not solved during the preparation
When you attempt mock test or solve previous year question papers, it is not enough seeing how many questions you have solved correctly. Also, you must understand why the other questions were incorrect and practice until you get them right. This is the best way to improve your JEE score
4. Skipping Long Questions
Some questions appear to belong which are actually simple and easy if solved carefully. Do not skip them because they are long and time-consuming. Read the question twice before attempting. Only because it seems having a long text does not mean it is difficult. Give them a try.
5. Not reading the question carefully
One of the main reasons why JEE aspirants commit mistakes is that they do not the question carefully and miss out some basic information. Therefore, spend a few seconds on reading a question carefully. Do not answer in a hurry.
6. Spending lots of time on the easier question
Just because of finding the questions of a particular topic are much easier than the others, it doesn’t mean you have to spend more than the planned time on them !!
7. Calculation mistakes
Most aspirants do not get the correct answer in the estimated time because of doing simple calculation mistakes. There will be lots of calculation based questions in the JEE mains paper to test the speed and calculating capabilities of an aspirant. So, practice more and more to avoid such mistakes.
8. Not paying attention during lectures
This is a common mistake which students commit. Some students never pay attention to the lectures and think they can prepare on their own. But this does not work out in the long run. Pay attention to the lectures and grasp as much as you can for JEE preparation.
9. Not studying regularly
Many aspirants believe in the last minute preparation for cracking the JEE. Instead, you should invest 6 hours daily apart from school and coaching to seriously crack the JEE. Make sure to study throughout the week without skipping a single day.
10. Focusing more on one subject
Mostly JEE aspirants concentrate on the subject which they are comfortable with and ignore the rest. Rather, a balance between Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Do not forget that all three subjects have equal weightage.
11. Social Media attraction
Don’t get trapped by social media. It is always best to avoid social media during study hours. A notification beep on the phone distracts you, often forcing you to check the message. Don’t think you will check the messages and get back to your studies, it never happens. It results in wasting of time.
12. Panicking
It is important to not panic at the exam time of JEE. Panicking not only demotivates but also will degrade your level. With some hard work along with an excellent study plan, JEE can be cracked easily.
13. Hurry to complete syllabus
Some students put more efforts at an early of JEE exam preparation and are often seen losing the concepts as the examination approaches. As a result, their performance gets down. This makes time management difficult during the final week. Completion of syllabus before time is not a key to success. The student must constantly practice the syllabus in order to enhance the skills.
14. Staying up all night before the exam
If you stay up all night before the exam, there is a chance to feel sleepy while writing the exam. You are bound to commit mistakes with sleepy eyes. Get a night sleep of at least 8 hours to ensure your brain is at its best and works perfectly during the exam
15. Wrong bubbling on OMR Sheet
Many students bubble the OMR sheet in a hurry, which results in wrong bubbling. So, be careful while bubbling the answers.
