Library at a glance

The advent of the concept of globalization that consists of the exchange of knowledge, culture, technology and people has effected many drastic, revolutionary and phenomenal changes in the system of education. It requires and necessitates the continuous updation of knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies to find one’s survival in the today’s highly competitive work environment. A library proves to be highly beneficial to ensure the dissemination of knowledge and information  and offers its contribution to the enhancement of education which is the ruler of the today’s technical, professional, corporate and industrial  world. Aditya degree college for women, Kakinada proudly boasts of its highly spacious and well furnished library with all the necessary infrastructural facilities  and with a wide range of eclectic selection of text books and reference books which proves to be a great boon to both the students and the faculty for the augmentation of their knowledge . It is fully computerized and all its functions and operations are controlled  through the network of computer system through the library software. the library consists of 11,800 books on different topics. some of the books can be borrowed and some of the books can be used only for the purpose of reference.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To create awareness about the significance of libraries in the system of education
  2. To organize library week
  3. To conduct many competitions in connection with the organization of library week
  4. To distribute the prizes to all the winners in the competitions
  5. To act as the hub of augmentation of knowledge.
  6. To enable  the students to prepare not only  for the academic examinations but also for competitive examinations.
  7. To provide comprehensive information about several notifications for the recruitment to various positions and the admission to various courses
  8. To provide a  book-bank facility to both faculty and students.
  9. To subscribe  to 38 magazines,4 journals ,7 telugu news papers and 7 english news papers.
  10. To provide  the facility of digital library to have the access to several e-journals.
  11. To provide the facility of online public access catalogue(OPAC) to come to know about the availability of a particular book.
  12. To prove  to be the most powerful weapon  for the acquisition of knowledge, information and ideology.
  13. To provide catalogue system in the library to ensure  classification of books and arrangement of books according to the serial number.
  14. To issue a borrower’s card to the students to enable them to borrow a book of their choice.
  15. To ensure that the books borrowed from the library must be returned within 14 days from the date of borrowing the books
  16. To make a provision  for the renewal  of the book which has already been borrowed.
  17. To ensure that the library consists of subject books,general books, competitive books, bound volumes of old magazines and project works.
  18. To provide comprehensive information to students  about the previous question papers of semester examinations.

Library Orientation
  • Library orientation has to do with introducing new library users to the library.
  • User guidance is the actions whereby users are guided and directed towards the satisfaction of their reading or information needs.
  • Orientation is primarily concerned with ways of introducing the user to the general techniques of Library usage and services available, and the organization, layout and facilities of a particular library.
  • Libraries are encouraged to assist their library users in developing skills to enable them to make the most effective use of the libraries resources and services.
Functions
  • To enable students to acquire information, knowledge and skills required for their study programmes.
  • To huld books, journals and other learning materials and technulogy-aided learning mechanisms.
  • To look into the matters relating to library such as inviting indents from faculty members for books, journals, and other learning resources including e-resources.
  • To advise, develop and monitor pulicies for the overall development of the library in terms of cullection development, processing, storage and retrieval of information.
  • To review and recommend for formulation of relevant pulicies with a particular attention to the cullection, budget and distribution of resources among academic divisions and branches.
  • To provide facilities for smooth and effective functioning of library like ventilation, seating, power supply, internet.
  • To provide service for effective utilization of library resources like library orientation for fresher’s, career guidance for senior students.
Facilities

Integrated Library Management System (ILMS)
The library is fully automated with Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) i.e. Autulib Software designed and developed by Autulib Software Systems, Chennai. Through the software, the library provides various services and facilities like OPAC, (Multiple Searching), e-gate, circulation, stock verification and preparation of various reports. The users can search the library online catalogue by author’s name, title, subject, and other keywords within the campus through LAN. All the Departments are provided with OPAC facility to search books, journals and other reading materials available in the library. All the books, CDs, Projects, back vulumes and SC Book Bank Scheme books are accessioned with barcode stickers for automatic scan during the processes of issue and return to the library for the stake-hulders.

Library Huldings

The Central library has been systematically and steadily strengthened year by year commendably classified text books and reference books.  In addition to Journals and Magazines, Spacious reading area with modern facility enhances the zeal of the students for knowledge.
The Cullege subscribes National, International Journals of reputation along with   local and National News papers. Library Management Technulogy was introduced in circulation section

Apart from subject related books, the library also has a good cullection of general books in variegated fields like:
