Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Group Cell (SEDGC)
The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Group Cell (SEDGC) is established in higher educational institutions as per the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to ensure equitable access, participation, and success of students belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged groups.
Objectives of SEDGC
- Promote inclusivity and equal opportunities in education.
- Support students from economically weaker sections and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Create a safe, supportive, and discrimination-free learning environment.
- Facilitate access to scholarships, financial aid, and welfare schemes.
- Address academic, social, and personal challenges faced by disadvantaged students.
- Improve retention, progression, and successful completion of education.
Functions of SEDGC
- Identify students belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged groups and assess their needs.
- Disseminate information regarding government scholarships, fee concessions, and support schemes.
- Organize mentoring, counseling, remedial coaching, and skill development programs.
- Conduct awareness programs on equality, diversity, and social justice.
- Address grievances related to discrimination, exclusion, or unequal treatment.
- Coordinate with various institutional committees to ensure inclusive practices.
- Monitor and evaluate support services provided to disadvantaged students.

The Cell primarily supports students from:
- Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- Other Backward Classes (OBC)
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
- Minority communities
- Women students
- Differently-abled students (Persons with Disabilities)
- First-generation learners
