WORLD SOIL DAY PROGRAM @ ADITYA DEGREE COLLEGE, KAKINADA

Awareness program on World Soil Day was programmed at Aditya Degree College, Kakinada. Speaking on the occasion Dr.B.E.V.L Naidu, Academic Director, said that, the day highlights the soil’s importance on Earth and it is one of the basic requirements for the survival of the living organisms. The soil also provides food, reduces the loss of biodiversity, and creates energy. World Soil Day aims at raising awareness on the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being. He also stated that the Soil is being polluted by the human waste like the usage of plastic and non biodegradable sources. People can plant trees in gardens to protect the soil. Farmers can also adopt sustainable soil management practices like crop rotation and terrace farming. Teaching youngsters about the importance of soils is another significant step to stop soil erosion. It is also a home to a number of organic remains, clay and rock particles, found on the Earth’s surface. He also raised a slogan ‘Stop soil erosion, save our future’ and gave a call to the students to carry it. Later, I.Lalitha of II B.Sc, Puneeth Sairam of I.B.Sc, S.Deepika of III B.Sc were given first, second and third prizes respectively in the Essay writing competition which was held in this regard.
